How Long Does CBD Stay in Your System?

Any time you use a CBD product, you hope that its positive effects will last for a good long while… though perhaps not too long. In truth, the duration of your CBD effects can depend on a wide range of factors, including your metabolism, the type of product you’re using, and the frequency with which you use CBD.

Generally speaking, though, how long will the effects of CBD last? As a rule of thumb, a single dose of CBD will probably affect you for several hours, though the cannabinoid may remain present in your system for a matter of days. Let’s consider a few quick facts that will help to explain just how long your next CBD dose should last.

How Long Will CBD Linger in Your System?

The first thing to be aware of is that there’s really very little data on this issue, for the simple reason that CBD testing is so uncommon. Because CBD is non-intoxicating, most employers really don’t care too much whether their employees use the substance, especially if they believe it helps them manage pain, stress, or other health concerns.

With that said, we do know that CBD is stored within your body’s fat cells, so theoretically it may remain detectable via blood test for a few days or even a couple of weeks. But of course, having CBD present in your body and experiencing any discernible effects of CBD are two entirely different questions.

How Long Will CBD Affect You?

As for the question of how long CBD keeps “working,” there are a number of variables. First and foremost, you need to absorb a sufficient quantity of CBD in order for it to have any effect at all. The specific dose you require can depend on the strain of CBD, your metabolism, your previous exposure to CBD products, and more.

Another factor to consider is the means by which you consume CBD. For example, if you swallow CBD, that means the substance has to pass through your liver, where some of it may be filtered out before it ever makes it into your bloodstream.

Most people find that the effects of CBD last for a few hours, but by experimenting with different products, different doses, and even different delivery methods, you may be able to stretch your CBD effects a bit further.

How Long Does CBD Remain Detectable?

For those who are worried about CBD showing up on a drug test, keep in mind that CBD disappears from the body fairly quickly… though not overnight. The half-life of CBD is estimated to be about two to five days, and it takes five to six half-lives for your CBD to be completely eliminated from the body. Bottom line: It may take anywhere from 11 to 28 days before CBD is totally gone from your system, but it will likely be undetectable well before then. Of course, those who use CBD on a regular basis will likely find that it takes longer for CBD to clear their system when compared with first-timers or infrequent users. Be aware that a Full Spectrum CBD product contains trace amounts of THC (0.3% or less), but this can show up in a drug test.

As for how long CBD is detectable in urine, again, there isn’t a lot of data to go on because CBD is so seldom included on drug tests. However, research suggests that CBD may not be traceable in the urine at all, and if it is, it may only be that way for 24 hours or so.

Tips for CBD Users

If you’re someone who’s worried about CBD showing up in a work-related drug test, we would simply advise that you keep away from products that contain THC. CBD isolate and broad-spectrum CBD products are very unlikely to register in drug tests, as most drug tests simply don’t include these substances.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for ways to enjoy the effects of your CBD for as long as possible, we’ll again invite you to carefully try different products and doses as you seek something that works well for you.
